Plenty of preparation for the official launch but it was all worthwhile. A large crowd assembled in The Abbey on a fine Summer's evening in order to get the show on the road.
John Heffernan welcomed all - students, parents, friends of the Abbey, media, cyclists and family connections and especially Lynda Kelly, the Tipperary Rose. He put this cycle into perspective as part of the Abbey India Project and the life of the school.
I outlined the different nature of this cycle - solo, a different route, no expenses taken and carrying all my own luggage. Introduced the 7 students taking part and gave details about the Bucket Collection in Tipp Town on July 24.
Our own Lynda Kelly, the Tipperary Rose spoke of her connections with the school and her own involvement in local cycling. She declared the cycle officially launched and wished it God speed.
While photos were being organised, the large gathering mingled over the delicious refreshments.
And, two very special supporters (Saoirse and Oisin) were there all the way from California to wish Grandad the best on his latest cycle.
